Location

Ipswich, Qld

Overview

A significant upgrade to Wulkuraka Station in Ipswich needed complementary wayfinding design to help customers navigate the area. Urban Monkey was commissioned by international engineering firm Jacobs on behalf of Queensland Rail, to deliver this significant project for the community.

Scope

Wayfinding is so much more than just signage — it’s a holistic design approach that covers site planning, design services and future-proofing of a site. We developed a human-centric wayfinding system that allowed people to move around Wulkuraka Station with ease. The challenge was to improve customer experience above and beyond the existing layout, as well as connectivity and information while working within the existing constraints of the project footprint. We made getting around and out of the station more intuitive for pedestrians by connecting modes of transport like taxi ranks, bus stops and kiss and ride.

Impact

As with all our projects, we’re working towards a net-positive result for all users of the infrastructure. This means outcomes had to facilitate a positive passenger experience, efficient flow of traffic within the station footprint, effective and efficient connections to and from other transport services and modes, consistent network messaging and a cost-effective outcome for the client.
