Location

Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast, Qld

Overview

In the heart of one of South-East Queensland’s fastest growing areas, The Department of Transport and Main Roads engaged Sinclair Knight Merz and Eddie Chiu1 to design a new bus station at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Eddie Chiu, called on his experience with structural engineering, industrial design, and architecture to create a positive customer experience for the thousands of bright young minds who were to use the station daily.

Scope

No two briefs are the same, and the University of Sunshine Coast site had its own unique challenges to address in the planning, design and implementation. The goal was to improve overall customer experience, local catchment and passenger usage, and find ways to integrate pathways and foot traffic from within the site to the surrounding precincts. Further, we had to create a design template that could emulated for other similar future projects. Done!

Impact

We delivered all of the above to make movement between the busway station and the campus efficient and seamless. The station allows for interaction with the surrounding subtropical environment, and the local precinct outside of the campus too. With the overarching goal of creating a positive passenger experience, we answered the brief while keeping the project cost effective, templatable, and within scope and budget.
